Having what is a called a "six pack" demonstrates the overall fitness of one's body. While not everyone can attain the abdominal definition necessary to have a "six pack", stomach exercises certainly offer a starting point. Stomach exercises can be performed at home, or at a gym, and usually require very minimal amounts of equipment. Hundreds of different stomach exercises exist, which adds variety to the workout, and also provides exercises to the different muscles of the stomach. While some people try to achieve a "six pack", other are using stomach exercises to strengthen their core muscles, which assist in the movement of the entire body. This is very important to your body because not only do these muscles protect internal organs and assist in breathing, they also allow the body to bend and twist. Some of the most popular stomach exercises are the "sit-up" and "crunch"; which both involve a sitting position, and moving your upper body towards your knees.
These are basic exercises, used mainly by people who believe they do not have any other stomach exercises to do. More advanced, and helpful stomach exercises include the "bicycle", and using an exercise ball to do the "crunch". Using different stomach exercises, just as with any other part of the body, is important to success.
