Steroid use in sports

Steroid use in sports has always been a problem, though the degree of the problem changes with time. Right now, the biggest example of steroid use in sports is the use of steroids in baseball. There was a recent scandal involving several well known baseball players who were accused of abusing steroids. Steroid use in sports is seen as a problem for many reasons. First, steroid use in sports is illegal. Steroid use in sports is a criminal act as well as illegal within the rules of the game. Second, steroid use in sports can lead to the untimely demise of athletes. Third, steroid use in sports has a detrimental affect on record books and the joy of the game. Finally, steroid use in sports sets a very poor example for children who are fans of the sport, and who may be self-conscious or awkward about the size of their own bodies.

Steroid use in sports is supposed to be heavily policed and reported to the proper officials, but clearly, most people are willing to turn a blind eye to steroid use in sports. Some organizations take steroid use in sports more seriously than others. Olympic athletes are routinely tested for steroids after an event, and athletes who test positive for doping do have their medals taken away.
