Sports nutrition
Sports nutrition is a multi-disciplinary field that includes an applied aspect as well as a basic aspect. The applied part of sports nutrition is the use of nutrition and dietary supplements to enhance an athlete's performance. The basic part of sports nutrition is the basic fundamental scientific principles and understanding of the same behind sports nutrition.
People who work in sports nutrition have varied backgrounds. Most people have degrees in nutrition as well as physiology. Most of the research done into sports nutrition is happening at the PhD level, especially in physiology. The combination of nutrition and physiology is an important aspect of sports nutrition, and nutritionists who do not have a background in physiology may not be the best choice for a career in sports nutrition. People in sports nutrition also tend to focus on one specific field or area. A specialist in sports nutrition can choose to focus on just bodybuilding, or cycling, or football.
Sports nutrition has three main goals. The first goal of sports nutrition is to prepare an athlete for training. The body needs to have the proper nutrition for proper training, especially if an athlete wants to maximize the time spent training and minimize the possibility of injury. The second goal of sports nutrition is to maintain the level of performance or training. The third goal of sports nutrition is to aid in the recovery of training or performance.
