Prostate Health
Many men have no idea what their prostate is, or why it is important. This increases the amount of men who are prone to die of prostate cancer, meaning one in four men will have prostate cancer by the time they are fifty. The prostate is an important reproductive gland located in front of the rectum, and wrapped around the urethra. The prostate's health is so important, because it contributes to the production of sperm, the male reproductive fluid. There are several health problems that can occur with the prostate, including inflammation, enlargement, and cancer. There are effective treatments coming into common practice involving the health of the prostate including new drugs, surgery, transurethral microwave thermotherapy, laser surgery, and more. If you are over fifty, the prostate exams are a good idea. During your regular doctor visits, you can be sure they check your prostate using a digital rectal exam, and a PSA blood test. The blood test is testing for a specific antigen, and if there is an increased amount of the antigen in your blood, it is possible that you have an infection or enlargement of the prostate. By constantly having doctor checkups, and remaining aware that prostate health is a problem, you can be sure to catch any potential problems before they grow into something larger.
