Physical Fitness

Physical fitness is a major concern in today’s world. Childhood obesity is on the rise due to a variety of factors, from the food available to the average child’s daily (in)activity. Meanwhile, their parents often work in jobs that do not require a great deal of movement, and when they finally get home, they’re too busy and tired to take simple steps that will ensure their physical fitness doesn’t deteriorate. Some even call the current situation a crisis or an epidemic.

What is the definition of physical fitness? Physical fitness is often measured by agility, balance, speed, body composition, muscular strength, flexibility, and coordination. Some people include emotional and mental fitness when discussing physical fitness. Good physical fitness is result of regular exercise and the proper diet and nutrition. Most health experts recommend exercising at least three times per week, elevating your heart rate for at least twenty minutes without breaks.

Physical fitness is often a sign of physical health, but it isn’t a guarantee. People who have great physical fitness can still get sick, or be subject to things like heart and cardiovascular disease. An important part of physical fitness is an annual physical exam and working closely with a healthcare professional, dietician, or trainer.
