High blood sugar refers to the times when there is too much glucose in the blood stream. The amount of glucose transported in the blood stream is highly regulated by the body, mainly by the amount of insulin produced. However, people with diabetes are highly susceptible to high blood sugar because they are either insulin resistant, or they simply do not produce enough insulin. People with type 2 diabetes suffer from high blood sugar because they are not sensitive to the insulin their body does produce. People with type 1 diabetes suffer from high blood sugar and fluctuations in their blood sugar levels because they do not produce enough insulin to keep everything regulated. High blood sugar and unregulated glucose levels can lead to very serious consequences for your health. One of the common symptoms of high blood sugar, or hyperglycemia (diabetes), is frequent urination coupled with serious thirst and an increase in the consumption of liquids. Another side effect of high blood sugar is damage to the organs, especially to the kidneys and the eyes. A high concentrate of glucose in the blood changes the shape of the eye, and that’s one of the most common symptoms of diabetes is blurred vision. That is also why high blood sugar or diabetes can eventually lead to blindness. |
