Essential amino acids

There are ten essential amino acids. They are known as essential amino acids because the body does not synthesize the ten amino acids. They must be brought into the body by nutrition. The essential amino acids are literally the building blocks for protein, which in turn, is the building block for muscles and organs. There are twenty amino acids, but ten of those do occur naturally in the body. There are four conditional essential amino acids, besides the ten essential amino acids. They are conditional because they occur naturally, but small children do not have the capability to synthesize them.

The ten essential amino acids can be consumed in a variety of ways. All essential amino acids are found in animal protein. So the steak, chicken, hamburger, or fish you eat will also give you your daily dose of the essential amino acids. But not everybody eats animal flesh. People on a strictly vegetarian diet can still get the essential amino acids their bodies need. First, soy is a great source for essential amino acids. In fact, all then essential amino acids can be found in soy. Essential amino acids are also naturally occurring in other vegetables. Besides that, vegetarians can get their essential amino acids in protein supplements.
