There are two different types of exercises, aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic exercise means exercise “with oxygen.” The muscles uses oxygen in aerobic exercises to generate energy. Aerobic exercises are, by definition, moderate impact and they are undertaken for a long period of time. Anaerobic exercises include weight training and strength training. Aerobic exercise differs from anaerobic because it targets different areas of the body for different purposes. The level of intensity and the duration of the exercise is one primary thing that separates anaerobic exercise from aerobic exercise. For example, running or jogging at a moderate speed for a long distance is an aerobic exercise. Sprinting is not an aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise has many known benefits. Aerobic exercise strengthens the respiration muscles. This helps the flow of air in and out of the lungs. Aerobic exercise also strengthens the heart muscle. Aerobic exercise is good for toning and defining muscle groups throughout the body. The process of using oxygen to create energy also increases the number of red blood cells in the body, which increases oxygen flow through the body. The more you participate in aerobic exercise, the quicker your body can generate and burn energy. Aerobic exercise is not the same as “Aerobics.” “Aerobics” is a type of exercise, while aerobic exercise is an umbrella term that includes many different types of exercises including running, cycling, and rowing. |
